Suit targets pot dispensary exec
A California medical marijuana dispensary operation that financed an Augusta-based medical marijuana company is suing the executive director of the Maine operation.
Berkeley Patients Group, in a lawsuit filed in the Cumberland County Superior Court last week, claims Northeast Patients Group Executive Director Rebecca DeKeuster sought new investment for the dispensaries in Maine while employed by Berkeley to over see its expansion into Maine in 2010, according to the Portland Press Herald. The suit alleges DeKeuster sought as much as $2 million for Northeast's four as-yet unopened dispensaries from former professional basketball player Cuttino Mobley and his organization, the Mobley Pain Management and Wellness Center in Rhode Island. The suit claims DeKeuster didn't tell Berkeley about her talks with Mobley, despite having a contract that precluded her from discussing confidential information about the company or its affiliates without written consent from Berkeley.
Last year, Northeast Patients Group was awarded licenses to operate four of Maine's eight medical marijuana dispensaries. DeKeuster resigned from Berkeley in February after signing a letter of intent with Mobley, the paper reports.
The lawsuit is seeking repayment of $632,195 in loans and asks that DeKeuster end her association with Northeast Patients Group, as well as seeks to bar her from competing with Berkeley for two years.
