Idexx's Q3 revenues up 12%

Third-quarter revenues at Idexx Laboratories Inc. in Westbrook rose 12% compared with the same quarter last year, the company reported Friday.

Revenues for the quarter ended Sept. 30 totaled $301 million, up from $269.6 million in Q3 2010, according to a press release. Organic revenue growth, which excludes the impact of changes in foreign currency exchange rates, was 8%. "Our strategy of bringing innovations to our global markets continues to deliver," said Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ayers. The pet health care company saw strong growth in its chemistry analyzer product, as well as its global reference laboratory and consulting services. The company reported a 13% revenue jump last quarter.

The biotech company this fall will begin construction of a $60 million corporate headquarters adjacent to its existing offices, an expansion that will allow it to hire up to 700 new employees. Currently, Idexx employs more than 4,800 people, 1,700 of whom are in Maine.
