First Wind pulls Bowers application

First Wind has pulled its application for a 27-turbine wind farm on Bowers Mountain near Lincoln in order to address questions on the project.

The Land Use Regulation Commission in October asked staff to prepare an order denying the application because of the project's impacts on scenic views, though the commission was expected to give a final vote on the project next month. First Wind Vice President Matt Kearns told the Bangor Daily News the Massachusetts-based company needs time to work with stakeholders to address concerns over the project's scenic impact. LURC will review First Wind's request to withdraw the permit application on Dec. 7.

The project on the Penobscot-Washington county line included building 19 turbines in Carroll Plantation and eight in Kossuth Township.
