Dead River merges with Vermont oil co.

Bangor-based Dead River Co. has finalized its merger with a division of Fleming Oil, a Vermont company.

Under the terms of the deal, Dead River will own and operate Fleming Oil's heating oil and services division, while Fleming will retain ownership of its convenience stores and gas stations, according to the Brattleboro Reformer. Fleming has 11 locations in New Hampshire and Vermont. The move allows Dead River to expand into new markets, Norm Guerette, Dead River's regional manager for New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, told the paper. Rick Fleming, owner of Fleming Oil, told the paper the merger will allow the company to expand its services, including online bill paying and ordering.

In October, Dead River Co. sold its 19 convenience stores to Canada-based Circle K to focus its attention on selling home heating fuels and installing heating units. The company also recently purchased Country Oil in Bernardston, Mass., and now has 40 retail fuel offices in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
