Ex-bank employee allegedly steals $30K

Bangor Savings Bank has terminated an employee after that person allegedly embezzled nearly $30,000 from more than 50 customers.

The unidentified employee allegedly stole funds from 55 customer accounts at the bank’s Searsport branch, according to the Bangor Daily News. The bank last week informed the affected customers, as well as 2,700 other people who bank at the branch, of the alleged theft. The bank launched an internal investigation a few weeks ago after a customer expressed concern over account activity and found the employee had altered transactions. Bangor Savings has since contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation for further action.

Bank spokesman Yellow Light Breen said customers would be repaid their entire loss, plus interest.
