Yarmouth farm wins USDA grant

A family-owned alpaca farm in Yarmouth is receiving nearly $30,000 in federal funds to create value-added products.

SuriPaco is one of 298 companies across the country receiving money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Value-Added Producer Grant program, according to a press release. SuriPaco will use the $27,450 grant for business planning and marketing for a high-end alpaca fiber. The 25-acre farm has 45 alpacas.

The USDA doled out a total of $40.2 million for value-added agricultural products and farm-based renewable energy projects.
