Madison logging co. to pay $35,000 fine
A Madison-based logging company has agreed to pay $35,000 in fines for improperly clear-cutting on land in Peru and Industry.
The Maine Forest Service levied the fine again T.R. Dillon Logging Inc. over violations of state forest practices law, according to a press release. The company did not have harvest plans prepared by a licensed forester prior to the harvest and an on-site review was not done. MFS Field Team Leader Tim Post told the Sun Journal the company performed improper cutting on 212 acres in Peru and two parcels, one 32 acres and another 101 acres, in Industry. The company reached a settlement with MFS to pay the fine and to draft management plans for the properties.
MFS said in the release the company did not intentionally violate any state laws.
