Casinos seek, train table-game dealers
About 500 people turned out for Oxford Casino's first job fair on Saturday, hoping to fill one of 50 blackjack dealer positions. Meanwhile, 69 students have completed a dealer course offered by Hollywood Casino and Eastern Maine Community College.
Job applicants in Oxford who passed a written math test will move ahead in the application process, according to the Sun Journal. The casino hoped to eventually whittle the pool down to about 100 people. All applicants who make it to the interview round will also have an opportunity to attend an eight-week dealer school sponsored by the casino. Applicants who didn't pass the math test can be considered for other positions.
In Bangor, students recently completed an eight-week course to train as poker and other table game dealers, according to the Bangor Daily News. Hollywood Casino offered the course in conjunction with EMCC's Hospitality Institute. Hollywood Casino, which recently changed its name from Hollywood Slots, plans to hire 89 people as dealers, table games managers and other positions by the time it debuts table games on March 16.
