Passengers, flights up at BIA

Bangor International Airport saw more passengers and flights in February compared with the same month in 2011, according to recently released statistics.

A total of 17,861 passengers flew out of the airport in February, a 30% increase over February 2011. A total of 15,607 passengers flew into the airport, up 29% over the same month last year. The number of domestic flights rose 14%, while total aircraft activity (including military and cargo) increased 20%. Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air saw the biggest gains, with its total landings increasing 14%, outgoing passengers up 39% and incoming passengers up 42%.

BIA has proposed a $5 million renovation to increase the number of aircraft it can accommodate. It's also considering expanding its parking lots to accommodate more passengers due to a 13-month rise in both the number of passengers and flights.
