Bookham to step down as Penobscot chamber director

Dan Bookham is stepping down as Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director in September to take a position with Allen Insurance & Financial.

Bookham will stay on until Sept. 30, according to a press release from the chamber's board. In a resignation letter, Bookham said the chamber is "thriving" six months after completing a merger with the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber, and that membership is growing. The chamber is the fourth-largest in the state with just over 1,000 members, according to Mainebiz research. Bookham said he believes his resignation "is the best [decision] for both the chamber and for my family."

Bookham has served as the director of the Camden chamber since January 2009 and became head of the merged chamber last summer.
