The University of Maine Foundation has named Jeffery Mills its new president and CEO, effective July 1. He succeeds Amos Orcutt, who is retiring June 30 after serving the foundation for 22 years.
The foundation's board announced Mills' appointment Friday in a press release. Mills, a UMaine alumnus, has extensive experience in nonprofit fundraising and higher education. For the past seven years, he's served as vice president of university advancement at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. He was vice president of advancement at UMaine from 2002-2005 and president and CEO of the University of Maine Alumni Association from 1997-2005. He also served in the Maine Legislature from 1983-1993.
The University of Maine Foundation is a separate nonprofit organization from the university system that was established in 1934 and has offices on the University of Maine campus in Orono and in Falmouth. It encourage private support to promote academic achievement and has assets approaching $200 million.
