After announcing in April it was going out of business, Waterville-based Atkins Printing Co. has reopened under new ownership. The new owners are two local businessmen who have plans to grow and expand its print production, marketing and related offerings.
All assets of Atkins Printing have been legally transferred to the new partners: Peter Schutte, owner of Color Graphics -- a print management and sign company based in Sidney -- and Mike Whitman, owner of Premier Marketing -- a member of the Proforma network that provides apparel and promotional products based in Manchester, according to a press release. Financial arrangements were not disclosed. The partners' joint firm is Premier Color, though they'll operate under the Atkins name.
Whitman said in a release that the company will "be developing a new and revitalized business model and sales strategy to promote the growth and expansion of Atkins Printing." Some new resources will be digital offset printing, direct mail, computer design and video production.
Two Atkins employees were retained, and more jobs are expected to be added at Premier Color. Seven previous employees of Atkins Printing found other employment, according to the release.
