DOT awards $604K to rural airports

Four rural Maine airports are sharing more than $600,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements.

U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins yesterday announced the $603,861 in DOT grants to several airports around Maine.

Funding will be distributed as follows:

  • $304,461 to Hancock County to help fund the design of the terminal building expansion project at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport;
  • $150,000 to the city of Eastport to acquire snow removal equipment to help keep the airport serviceable during snow periods;
  • $122,400 to the town of Dexter for the design phase of an apron rehabilitation project at Dexter Regional Airport;
  • $27,000 to the town of Millinocket to update the existing master plan at the Millinocket Municipal Airport to help identify future airport needs.
