Lewiston paving company closes
Lewiston-based R.C. & Sons Paving shut its doors Friday after 36 years in business. A total of 40 people lost their jobs.
Mike Cloutier, grandson of founder Romeo Cloutier, attributed the closure to the bad economy, according to WMTW-8. He and his brother, Claude, ran the business.
The company last year relocated its asphalt plant from Augusta to Windsor because of opposition in the capitol. However, the Windsor plant had never produced asphalt, though it had performed some rock crushing in preparation of asphalt production, according to the Kennebec Journal.
The company had a contract for paving for the new MaineGeneral Medical Center hospital under construction in Augusta, and the work is expected to be completed.
