Maine gets $14M for housing programs

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Maine more than $14 million for affordable housing. The state is receiving $10.6 million for the Community Development Block Grant program and $3.4 million for the HOME program, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud.

According to HUD, the CDBG program provides annual grants to states and municipalities to develop housing principally for low- and moderate-income individuals as a way to help spur economic development in urban areas, in particular. The HOME program funds affordable housing for low-income families through grants to state and local governments.
