More than $3M to fund transit programs

Four Maine organizations are receiving more than $3.3 million in federal transportation grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation's State of Good Repair Program.

U.S. Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree announced the recipients in press releases. Recipients are:

  • Greater Portland Metro, $2 million, to replace five buses
  • Aroostook Transportation System Inc., $735,160, for vehicle replacements and maintenance garage roof replacement
  • Western Maine Transportation Services Inc., $388,000, for vehicle replacements
  • Waldo Community Action Partners, $180,000, for vehicle replacements

All projects were selected on a competitive basis. Nationwide, the DOT awarded $787 million.
