Program connects blueberry workers with farms

A temporary placement center to match migrant and seasonal workers with blueberry harvesting opportunities has opened in Columbia.

The Raker Center, a temporary program of the Eastern Maine Development Corp. and the National Farmworkers Jobs Program, is working with Down East blueberry farmers to find seasonal workers to bring in harvests, reported the Bangor Daily News. This year's harvest is expected to be the largest since 2000.

The center will also help migrant workers with housing and transportation needs and will remain open until Aug. 15.
