Gas prices jump 8 cents

Gas prices in Maine increased by nearly 8 cents in the past week, putting prices at more than seven cents higher per gallon than a year ago and 28 cents higher per gallon than a month ago.

MaineGasPrices.com, a price-monitoring website, reported the average retail cost of gas in Maine climbed to $3.79 the past week. Although gas prices are rising nationally, the website reported the average cost in Maine rose faster and is now 11 cents higher than the national average.

A company analyst blames higher prices on problems at oil refineries. Gas prices in the United States ranged from a low of $3.33 per gallon in Arizona to a high of $4.06 per gallon in California.
