L.L.Bean hiring 4,500 seasonal workers

L.L.Bean will be doubling its work force of 4,500 year-round employees, with the hiring of seasonal workers to help the Freeport-based retailer get ready for the holiday shopping season.

The Portland Press Herald reported that some seasonal workers already have been hired to handle the summer tourism trade, while others will be hired in September. By the end of October or early November, the hiring of seasonal workers will be completed, L.L.Bean spokeswoman Carolyn Beem told the newspaper.

This year's seasonal work force is down slightly from last year, when approximately 4,700 workers were hired, the Press Herald reported.

Beem said most seasonal employees will work in customer service or call centers, while others will work in distribution facilities and manufacturing centers making Bean boots and tote bags.
