$6M riverside renovation planned for Saco Island mill

The two owners of a former mill on Saco Island plan to move ahead with a $6 million residential redevelopment project.

The Sun Chronicle reports that the building's owners – Gordon Hurtubise and Shipyard Brewing Co. President Fred Forsley – plan to turn the 55,000-square-foot riverside building into 36 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

David Bateman, a development consultant for the project, told the Chronicle that the decision to move ahead with the project came, in part, as a result of a rebounding economy and a greater demand for work force housing.

Peter Morelli, the city's development director, told the paper that the project to renovate the mill is one of the largest investments on Saco Island since the late 1980s.
