Feds give $1.5M to Portland infrastructure projects

Portland's mixed-use redevelopment on Thompson's Point got a $1.5 million boost from the federal government Thursday.

The funds, from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, will be directed toward infrastructure improvements around the planned business, arts, entertainment and transportation complex that writers of the federal grant application estimated would create 455 jobs and bring up to $105 million in private investment.

The money will support improvements to highway access, roadways, traffic management, safety and storm water controls, according to a press release from the EDA, and aims to make that development a new regional transportation hub, connecting I-295 with the Portland Transportation Center and the Portland International Jetport.
