York County hospitals form new partnership

The 58-bed Goodall Hospital, which recently became part of the MaineHealth network, announced it will integrate services with Southern Maine Medical Center under a new parent corporation, called Southern Maine Health Care.

That new corporation is now the York County affiliate for MaineHealth.

Ed McGeachey, current CEO of SMMC, will also serve as CEO of the new entity to encourage greater collaboration between the two hospitals, which will "remain separate organizations at this time," according to a press release.

McGeachey said that the partnership aims to save both hospitals money through larger group purchases of supplies and technology and shared resources and expertise.

SMMC has a 150-bed acute care medical center in Biddeford and outpatient care at locations in Biddeford, Kennebunk, Old Orchard Beach and Saco.
