TD Bank flags March data loss

An undisclosed number of TD Bank customers received letters last week warning that the bank, in March, lost computer tapes containing personal and financial information.

The Sun Journal reported that the tapes — containing data that included bank account and Social Security numbers — were lost during shipping to Massachusetts.

The bank held off notifying customers for seven months while it conducted an internal investigation, the paper reported.

Bank spokeswoman Rebecca Acevedo told the paper that customers affected live throughout the bank's East Coast service area, from Florida to Maine.
