Southwest to fly from Portland in 2013

Southwest Airlines has announced plans to take over flights out of the Portland International Jetport currently operated by its subsidiary AirTran early next year.

The Bangor Daily News reported that airport Director Paul Bradbury said Southwest -- the largest domestic airline -- will likely begin to expand its service out of Portland following the move.

Southwest acquired AirTran in 2011, which now operates three daily flights from Portland to Baltimore.

Southwest plans to release complete details of its flight schedule for Portland on Monday, the paper reported.
