Maine Natural Gas, MaineGeneral ink 10-year deal
Maine Natural Gas has announced plans to move ahead on building a pipeline into Augusta to serve MaineGeneral Medical Center in a 10-year agreement.
The Morning Sentinel reported that Maine Natural Gas, which has permission to extend natural gas pipelines where they do not already exist, decided to move ahead on construction of the pipeline despite the absence of an agreement to provide service to state facilities in hopes of courting other customers in the area.
The company told the paper service would be online for MaineGeneral by Nov. 1, 2013, a move that amplifies Maine Natural Gas' rivalry with Summit Natural Gas of Maine over a contract with the state.
That contract was initially awarded to Maine Natural Gas but later rescinded after a complaint from Summit that the process was unfair and the request-for-proposal terms were unclear.
Earlier this month, Maine Natural Gas countered that legal challenge, arguing that Summit's appeal of the state decision came in a day too late.
