Summit hires Augusta development director

One of two companies battling over a state natural gas contract has hired away the city's development director.
The Morning Sentinel reported that Michael Duguay, who has a 13-year tenure at the city, will serve as the director of business development for Summit Natural Gas of Maine, a competitor with Maine Natural Gas for the contract to provide state buildings with natural gas.
In September, a panel of the state's Bureau of General Services rescinded a $19.3 million contract awarded to Maine Natural Gas after complaints from Summit. Maine Natural responded with a challenge to the Summit appeal, saying it came in one day past a 30-day deadline to submit appeals.
Despite holdups with the state contract, both companies have since tried to sign clients in the Augusta area.
Maine Natural Gas, an Iberdrola subsidiary, has permission from state regulators to extend natural gas pipelines where they do not currently exist.
The Colorado-based Summit currently has conditional approval from the state's Public Utilities Commission to build out natural gas pipelines in the state.
Summit officials told the Sentinel that they are hoping for unconditional approval from the state's Public Utilities Commission to serve Maine customers and start next spring on a pipeline from Windsor to Augusta that would serve the Kennebec Valley.
