Spurwink president steps down
The president of Portland-based Spurwink Services will step down in March to take on leadership at a Florida community center, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Spurwink President Dawn Stiles announced that she will move on to become executive director of the Anna Maria Island Community Center near Sarasota, Fla. The center has a budget of around $1 million to serve the island community of nearly 6,500 full-time residents.
Spurwink is one of the state's largest nonprofit providers of mental health care and special education services, serving around 5,000 children and adults each year with a budget of over $50 million and 1,000 employees.
The board of directors at Spurwink will begin a search for a new leader.
Stiles was named president of Spurwink in 2006, according to a press release, succeeding Peter McPherson, who led the nonprofit for 10 years. Stiles was hired at Spurwink in 2000 after serving as deputy bureau director of the Maine State Department of Health.
