CMP puts first of $1.4B in upgrades online

Central Maine Power Co. has finished work on a $57 million substation project in Lewiston as part of a $1.4 billion transmission system upgrade.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the project is the first major part of the upgrade to come online and will take power from a regional grid to use in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford and Sagadahoc counties.

The full transmission system upgrade is scheduled to take five years and will include construction of four substations and upgrading of 440 miles of transmission lines from Orrington to Eliot.
