Five Guys to expand to S. Portland
Five Guys Burgers and Fries' third Maine restaurant is in the works near the Maine Mall in South Portland.
The new 92-seat restaurant follows the burger chain's expansion to Bangor announced late last year.
According to the South Portland Codes Enforcement Office, the restaurant received approval on Dec. 17 to begin construction on a $300,000 renovation of the former Carpet Town store at 198 Maine Mall Road. The property is owned by the New York-based real estate investment firm, Kimco Realty.
The building permit lists the New Jersey-based Gerard Construction Corp. as the general contractor for the renovation.
Franchise co-owner Gene Prentice did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
The chain's other Maine location is in Portland's Old Port. Prentice's franchises include stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine, Prentice told the Bangor Daily News in October.
