Gov. Paul LePage wants to redistribute funds from a program that charges power producers for emitting greenhouse gases. Since 2008, that Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative has generated $34.4 million for the state, according to the Portland Press Herald. That plan would redirect funds away from the Efficiency Maine Trust, which has made energy efficiency investments that have reduced future and projected energy costs for Maine electricity customers by $300 million, according to a spokesman. LePage wants to use the RGGI funds to help consumers convert heating systems away from oil.
Should the state redirect RGGI funds?
