Forty percent of people polled by the Pew Research Center and USA TODAY said that if federal leaders can't strike a deficit deal by March 1, they should let automatic budget cuts, or the sequester, take effect. The Associated Press reported that would mean $85 billion in cuts from a $3.6 trillion budget spanning March-September. Meanwhile, the White House has warned Maine and every other state about which programs and services would lose out if the looming budget cuts take hold.
