Maine wind farm power buy gets initial CT approval
The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority tentatively approved the state's purchase of 250 megawatts of renewable power from a Maine wind farm and a Lisbon, Conn., solar array.
The Connecticut regulatory authority issued its draft decision on the proposals from electric utilities Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating to charge ratepayers for the cost of recovering the expenses of buying this renewable power.
The proposal, which includes buying 250 megawatts of wind from Number Nine Wind Farm in Aroostook County and 20 megawatts of solar from Fusion Solar Center in Connecticut, was orchestrated by the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. The department solicited renewable energy projects in an effort to meet the state's renewable energy goals.
Connecticut regulators will have a hearing on the decision today before issuing a final ruling.
