MaineGeneral to open new $312M hospital
MaineGeneral Health will officially open its $312 million Alfond Center for Health on Saturday, when hospital officials will work with an out-of-state contractor to move patients into the new facility.
The Kennebec Journal reported inpatients from the central Maine health-care network’s Thayer Center for Health in Waterville and its East Chestnut Street hospital in Augusta will be transferred to the new 192-bed facility at 35 Medical Center Parkway. HTS Inc., based in Emeryville, Calif., was hired to coordinate the move.
Chuck Hays, CEO of MaineGeneral Medical Center and its parent MaineGeneral Health, told the paper that hospital staff members have spent two years preparing for the move, which is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The new hospital campus will take over inpatient services from the Waterville campus, which will undergo $10 million in renovations starting Monday and then focus on outpatient treatment, and will supplant the network’s East Chestnut Street location, which has been sold to developers with Mattson Development. Mattson plans to redevelop the 115-year-old, 300,000-square-foot building into new commercial space.
