Lawmakers began debating Tuesday on a bill that would establish specific goals for developing solar power generation in Maine. Supporters say requiring development of 40 megawatts of solar energy development by 2016 and 200 megawatts by 2020 would create jobs while reducing carbon emissions and dependence on foreign oil. Gov. Paul LePage's energy chief told The Associated Press that the administration opposes the bill, preferring that the market determine the types of energy developed in the state.
