State Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, is sponsoring a bill called the "retail workers' bill of rights" that would require employers to meet certain requirements for part-time and full-time retail workers. Among other things, the bill would require part-time workers to have the same hourly pay and promotion opportunities as full-time workers who have the same job. It would also require employers to provide schedules two weeks in advance. Business groups like the Maine State Chamber of Commerce have opposed the bill, saying it would increase business costs and inhibit job growth. Read the full text of the bill here.
