House Speaker Mark Eves, D-North Berwick, is proposing a bill that would invest $5 million to create a job training program through private-public partnerships. The bill would provide $5 million to businesses and industries interested in setting up training programs for "jobs in high-demand fields" in concert with Maine's community colleges. In exchange, the groups would have to match the money with 50% of their own investment and provide a universally recognized degree or certificate for each industry.
Should the state spend $5 million on a new job training program?
