An effort to make Maine a "right-to-work" state has once again failed, after the Maine Senate and House of Representatives voted against the measure in the past week, the Bangor Daily News reported. The bill, L.D. 489, would have prohibited labor unions from collecting fees "as a condition of employment or continuation of employment," according to the bill's text.
