The Maine Senate and House of Representatives are divided over whether municipalities should be able to set their own minimum wage. The disagreement between the chambers means that a measure to block cities like Portland from raising the local minimum wage is likely dead. In explaining her support for the measure, Sen. Amy Volk, R-Scarborough, said minimum wage increases at a local level would cause needless confusion for businesses that operate across multiple communities.
