The organizer of the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland corrected a decades-long mistake earlier this year: failing to pay the state sales taxes for years because of an incorrect assumption. The Bangor Daily News reported that the festival's organizer, Rockland Festival Corp., recently revealed that it repaid the state more than $73,000 earlier this year after its new accountant realized that the organizer incorrectly assumed that it wasn't liable for sales tax as a nonprofit. The newspaper said the nonprofit never collected sales tax in its 68 years of operating until this year.
