Communities in Downeast counties to get high-speed cell service and Internet

Verizon network operator Wireless Partners LLC announced last week that 4G LTE cellular service and high-speed Internet in all service areas in eastern Hancock and Washington counties are scheduled to be up before the end of 2015.

In the first phase of the expansion, Portland-based Wireless Partners will build 32 new sites with 4G LTE coverage, 13 of which will be located on newly constructed tower structures. The towers will serve populations that have never had access to carrier-grade, high-speed wireless mobile voice and broadband Internet service, the company said. The sites will be built along the U.S. Route 1 corridor between Ellsworth and Eastport and the Route 9 corridor between Bangor and Calais.

Wireless Partners, the 20th network operator in the Verizon Wireless LTE in Rural America Program, announced in June it had secured a $3.4 million loan for the Downeast expansion.
