Maine Coast live lobster footprint expands to Boston

A York-based live lobster wholesale company has announced a southern expansion into Boston, Mass. to increase specialty offerings to its New England customer base, as well as provide both international and domestic rapid-ship capabilities from Logan Airport.
Maine Coast Shellfish LLC’s expansion into the Boston market will increase the wholesaler’s live lobster containment storage capabilities from 150,000 in its original York location, to 170,000 pounds. The company, which was recognized in 2015 by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the Small Business Exporter of the Year for Maine, currently employs 30 people year-round with the addition onto the Boston fish-pier adding an additional six positions within its first year of operation.
"Our Boston location will allow us to increase our world class customer service by offering our domestic and international customers rapid-ship capabilities out of Boston's Logan Airport,” said Tom Adams, Maine Coast’s founder and CEO in a statement. “We will also be able to provide our New England customers with specialized service from this facility."
Following its move into Boston in June, Maine Coast will be the only business that is primarily dedicated to lobster wholesale on the Boston Fish Pier.
"The industry has expanded in the last several years and I know that in order to remain competitive, I need to reinvest in my company,” Adams added. “I am confident that the Fish Pier location, coupled with our increased marketing and branding efforts, will help Maine Coast achieve additional sales worldwide."
