Falmouth serves as launch pad for Flagship Premium Cinemas

Summer movie season in Falmouth will kick-off in style this year. Cambridge, Mass.-based Flagship Cinemas announced that Falmouth will be the first to debut the company’s upscale theatre experience with the opening of a new location on Route 1.

Gone are the days of questionably sticky movie theatre floors and the well-worn seats — as the newly dubbed Flagship Premium Cinemas will feature plush, power-reclining chairs with ottomans and the latest in digital sound and projection. The Premium Cinema locations will also feature reserved seating and self-serve soda stations.

“Adding a high-quality movie experience back into the community’s entertainment mix is excellent news for our residents and businesses, not just in Falmouth, but also in the entire region,” Theo Holtwijk, Falmouth’s director of Long Range Planning and Economic Development, said in a statement.

With the Falmouth opening, Flagship will have five theaters in Maine, including Auburn, Thomaston, Waterville and Wells.
