Brunswick startup lauded for work in hospital construction zone

STARC Systems, one of the first businesses to locate within TechPlace, Brunswick Landing’s technology accelerator business incubator, played a key role in keeping patients safe during the Central Maine Medical Center’s recent renovation of its emergency department.

An article in the August issue of Health Facilities Management, a trade journal, described how the Brunswick company helped the Lewiston hospital complete the renovation without interrupting emergency services or exposing patients and staff to potentially hazardous airborne particles.

The key to meeting that challenge, the article stated, was the 100-foot airtight containment barrier — otherwise known as a Simple Telescopic Airtight Reusable Containment system — that STARC built around the construction zone.

The article cited U.S. Department of Commerce statistics that health care renovation activity is expected to increase 5% to 8% over the next two years.

STARC Systems, one of approximately 24 tenants in TechPlace, was featured in a March 7 Mainebiz article about the technology incubator at Brunswick Landing by Senior Writer Lori Valigra.
