Firm's proposal to demolish former Great Northern mill raises questions

North American Recovery Management, a Florida-based demolition company that purchased the former Great Northern Paper mill in East Millinocket last March, has filed an application with the state to raze the mill’s buildings.

Bangor Daily News, however, reported that the Boca Raton company’s plan has East Millinocket town officials concerned that it could deter unnamed investors who might be interested in using the mill’s buildings.

Meanwhile, Maine Department of Environmental Protection spokesman David Madore told the newspaper that the company’s application lacks some environmental information. Madore said the company won’t be able to knock any buildings down until it provides the information needed by DEP to consider authorizing the demolition.

BDN reported that North American CFO Jason Inoff declined to comment about the situation on Monday.
