Gofundme for Ellsworth restaurant's overdue taxes?

The gofundme website has become a familiar mechanism to raise money for personally distressing circumstances.

Now an Ellsworth restaurant has turned to the site asking customers to help pay its $25,000 property tax bill, the Bangor Daily News reported.

The Bangkok Restaurant, established in 1989, created a page called “Save the Bangkok.”

Amanda Tupper, the city’s tax collector, told the BDN the city filed a lien against the restaurant because it still owes $14,424 for its 2016 property tax bill.

“In order to satisfy mounting property tax obligations, we need to raise at least $25,000 by the end of January to keep the doors open,” owner Pronsavanh “Alicia” Soutthivong wrote on the page.
