Historic Bangor building razed

One developer’s hope of revitalizing a historic house in Bangor for office space were dashed this past weekend, when the structure was razed.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Bob Kelly of House Revivers “was shocked and very disappointed” that officials at Shaw House, a nonprofit, chose to tear down the historic structure.

A demolition permit was issued by the city on Aug. 8, the BDN reported.

The house dates to 1892 and was designed by Wilfred E. Mansur, a leading Bangor architect at the time.

“I was hoping that they would still give us time to work something out. I hate to see it go,” Kelly told the BDN Monday. “It was something that could have been saved. It was a piece of Bangor’s architectural history, and now it’s no more.”
