Maine apple growers are reporting a much larger apple harvest this year over last year's crop, which was adversely impacted by a long drought. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Maine apple growers will produce an estimated 43 million pounds of apples — an increase of 22% from a year ago and 29% above the state's five-year average. With many pick-your-own farms participating in the Maine State Pomological Society's 17th annual Maine Apple Sunday on Sept. 10, we're curious:
What is your favorite kind of apple?

Tie between Macs and Cortlands. I voted for Cortland.

While I do prefer Gala apples as an every-day kind of apple, the early Macs are such a close second that I wish you could choose multiple answers on this poll.

We're in our 5th year with John Bunker's Out on a Limb apple CSA...a delicious assortment of heritage apples for sauce, pies, crisps and eating. You can't beat the tried and true varieties.
