The 20,300-square-foot building is expected to be completed by April 1, 2018.

Casco Systems broke ground Monday on a new 20,300-square-foot headquarters building at 197 Gray Road in Cumberland.

Kevin Mahoney, president of Casco Systems, told Mainebiz the $3 million office, manufacturing and R&D facility is a key element in the company’s plans for continued growth.

Casco Systems is an engineering and system integration firm headquartered in Cumberland, with additional offices in Waterville, Rochester, N.Y., and Vermont. It has a full time staff of 35 engineers, automation specialists, project managers and business professionals and performs work for electric utility and power generation clients throughout North America, with a special focus on the Northeast.

“We have outgrown our current facility at 160 Longwoods Road in Cumberland,” Mahoney said. “This limits our ability to add new staff and expand our R&D effort. The new facility will offer an enhanced environment for staff, leading to increased employee satisfaction and assist with recruiting. We were elected as one of the ‘Best Places to Work in Maine’ the last two years and this new building will help Casco live up to that honor.”

Mahoney said the new facility will provide larger laboratory space for research and development of advanced automation, control and protection systems for the electric power industry. “With the larger shop space we will be able to stage control systems for testing prior to deployment to the field,” he said.

Construction is expected to be completed by April 1, 2018.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday in front of the project location, with Mahoney and members of the company’s management and staff being joined by Cumberland town officials, Green SIP Construction, Gorham Savings Bank, Malone Commercial Brokers and local businesses.
