Knightville evolving as the ‘SoHo of SoPo’

The Knightville neighborhood of South Portland continues to build on its base of trendy retail shops and eateries.

The Forecaster reported the latest entry is an art and jewelry cooperative called SoPo Art Studies at 96 Ocean St., which is the new home of painter Mary Anne Cary and jewelers Tina Dinsmore and Lori Perkins. Cary and Dinsmore told the paper that the developing neighborhood is becoming known as the “SoHo of SoPo.”

The nickname adds to South Portland’s overall cachet; the city was declared the best place to live in Maine by Money Magazine earlier this year.

Other recent developments in South Portland include plans by the owners of Cape Whoopies, White Cap Coffee and Rwanda Bean Coffee to lease space and open a coffee bar and whoopie pie bakery,  and the expansion of Two Fat Cats bakery.
