Husson University and NMCC form nursing affiliation

Husson University and Northern Maine Community College have formed an affiliation that allows nursing students pursuing an associate’s degree at NMCC to easily transfer credits toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Husson.

The agreement provides students a “side-by-side analysis” of how their credits will be applied, the schools said in a press release.

“This agreement will allow community college students to continue to have access to an affordable, high-quality education as they pursue their bachelor’s degree,” said Jennifer Flynn, director of Husson’s Northern Maine campus.

Nursing education is becoming more important in Maine, which faces a potential shortage of 3,200 registered nurses by 2025, according to a report from the Maine Nursing Action Coalition. In addition, the National Academy of Medicine has recommended that at least 80% of nurses hold bachelor’s degrees by 2020.

NMCC, whose main campus is in Presque Isle, offers 29 associate-degree and certificate-level programs. Husson is based in Bangor and grants overs 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees.
